Future location on Trumbull in Detroit's Woodbridge neighborhood

James Oliver Coffee Co., which opened its main coffee shop and café on Michigan Avenue in Detroit’s Corktown in 2021, is continuing to expand its footprint.

The company plans to open a new outlet at 3042 Biddle Street in Wyandotte in about two weeks, along with a location at Trumbull and Forest in Detroit’s Woodbridge neighborhood later this year, an employee tells Deadline Detroit.

The upcoming Trumbull store is attached to a small apartment building.

There is also a location in the Guardian Building on Griswold in downtown Detroit.

The Corktown shop is known for serving a legit bagel and occupies the space formerly home to the Detroit Institute of Bagels.

The company’s website offers this background on the business, which roasts its own coffee:

James Oliver, known as Jim, started his roasting company with his wife Annie in New Hampshire in 1995. He developed link temperature roasting while researching the best methods for sourcing and storing green beans.

In late summer 2019, he turned the company over to his daughter Miranda and son-in-law David. They moved the operation to Detroit, where they continue to roast with the highest standards. James remains a consultant to ensure that his recipes and processes are maintained.
