Judge Noah Hood
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced Wednesday the appointment of Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Noah Hood to fill a vacancy on the Michigan Supreme Court.
Hood is a native Detroiter who graduated from Cass Tech High School, Yale College, and Harvard Law School.
He replaces Justice Elizabeth Clement, who announced in February that she was stepping down. Clement was a Republican-nominated justice. With Hood's appointment, Democratic-backed judges will hold a 6-1 majority on the court.
Whitmer first appointed Hood as a judge on the Wayne County Circuit Court in 2019 and to the Michigan Court of Appeals in 2022. Prior to that, he served as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of Michigan and the Northern District of Ohio.
“I am honored to appoint Judge Hood to the Michigan Supreme Court,” Whitmer said in a statement. "A proud Detroiter, graduate of Harvard Law, and active member of the legal community with both trial and appellate court experience, he will bring important perspectives to the highest court in our state. I want to thank him for his many years of public service and look forward to many more on the Supreme Court.”
