Four people were killed and 17 injured in a fiery traffic crash along I-96 near Webberville in Ingham County, east of Lansing, late Saturday night after a semi-trailer truck rammed into multiple vehicles, WXYZ reports. More than a dozen vehicles were involved in the crash.
The truck and several cars caught fire.
Michigan State Police said it happened just before midnight when trafffic was backed up on I-96, WXYZ reports.
The semi-truck apparently did not see the backup in time and crashed into multiple cars.
Around noon Michigan State Police posted this on X:
UPDATE: at this time, crews are still working to clean up debris on westbound I 96 at M 52. The overpass is closed and will be closed indefinitely as MDOT needs to inspect the bridge for structural integrity. Additionally, if you are looking to go north or southbound on M 52 at I 96 you will be unable to as the roadway is closed for safety reasons. We don’t anticipate the roadway being open anytime soon. There’s a chance that it will not be open tomorrow, Monday as well. So if you take this route to work, you will want to find another route or expect heavy back ups.
