Amid talk of a possible strike, UAW members marched in full force on a sunny, warm Monday morning in the Detroit Labor Day Parade. The strike deadline is September 14, though it's not clear which car company would be the initial target.

The parade, the first parade in three years because of Covid, was titled: “Labor United Stronger Than Ever.”

After marching north on Trumbull, the parade, which included a variety unions, headed west on Michigan Avenue to Roosevelt Park, in front of the train station, where union members heard speeches from Democratic Congress members including Elissa Slotkin, Debbie Dingell and Haley Stevens and Attorney General Dana Nessel.

UAW President Shawn Fain reminded the crowd of the pending strike deadline, and emphasized that the union must exercise its power to obtain economic and social justice. He ended by asking if everyone was ready to rumble?
