This autumn's fourth pandemic surge continues filling hospitals during Thanksgiving week.
More than 3,900 adults and 46 pediatric patients were in Michigan hospitals Monday with confirmed or suspected Covid infections, health department figures show.
Forty-eight percent -- 1,880 adults and 28 youngsters or adolescents -- were from six Southeast Michigan counties. Among the adults, 338 were in intensive care units.
Beaumont's eight hospitals had 562 Covid patients Monday, including 140 at its main site in Royal Oak. The Henry Ford Health network's five hospitals had 434 pandemic admissions.
Here's a breakdown of suspected and confirmed Covid patients by local hospital regions:
♦ Oakland, Macomb and St. Clair: 895 adults, including 151 in ICU | 7 pediatric cases
♦ Wayne, Monroe, Washtenaw: 985 adults, including 187 in ICU | 21 pediatric cases
Statewide, Covid hospitalizations have risen 46% in the past two weeks, according to a New York Times database.
The governor's chief medical executive, Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian, said at a media briefing last Friday that Michigan "case rates are virtually at the same point as last year" even though about 5.4 million residents are fully vaccinated. "Our Covid-19 metrics are looking quite troubling," she's quoted by Michigan Advance as saying.
"Fifteen percent of hospital beds are being used to care for Covid patients."
Nine hospitals outstate were at full capacity Monday. Most ICU patients are not vaccinated, the Michigan Health and Hospital Association's chief medical officer tells WXYZ.
